GREATER LOWELL WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT BOARD RELEASES THE FISCAL YEAR 2019 ANNUAL PLAN FOR COMMENT

The Greater Lowell Workforce Development Board (GLWDB), in partnership with the Chief   Elected Official (CEO), Eileen Donoghue, Manager, City of Lowell, is responsible for developing an Annual Plan for Fiscal Year 2019 and submitting the plan to the Massachusetts Department of Career Services. Local Workforce Development Boards, through the annual planning process, must assure that effective service and positive outcomes remain the overarching goal for all local providers and that quality is not compromised in the wake of challenges posed to the workforce system. Interested parties are encouraged to submit written comments on the Executive Summary to the Greater Lowell Workforce Development Board, no later than August 27, 2018.

Local Employers and High Schools Participate in STEM Roundtable

Several local employers, staff and students from 3 Greater Lowell High Schools participated in a STEM Roundtable hosted by Secretary of Education James Peyser, Greater Lowell Workforce Development Board Executive Director Peter Farkas and Michael Glass of Thermo Fisher. The roundtable was held at Tewksbury High school and featured students from Lowell High School and Tewksbury High school, who shared their experiences as interns at Watermark, the National Park and Thermo Fisher. The focus of the roundtable was to open dialogue with local employers about providing internship opportunities to Juniors and Seniors from area high schools.
